“De Fakkel” is awarded annually by VOKA to a family business in the province of Limburg with an exceptional track record. The jury explains its choice as follows: “Through their family charter, a family forum and an advisory board, the company shows a strong example of family governance. Besides healthy financial figures, Hegge also dares to think long term, with an eye for innovation. They proved themselves resistant to various crises, and gradually the fifth generation is also becoming involved in the management of the company. It is proof of a family business that is concerned with continuity, but where the family culture is never lost sight of.”
Hegge Supplies attention to the environment has now also been audited by LRQA. They found that our environmental management system meets the ISO 14001 standard. This standard is a management system for evaluating, improving and reporting on environmental performance and monitoring compliance with environmental legislation.
Soltech produces and develops customised solar panels that can be incorporated in roof tiles, canopies, façade walls, noise barriers, solar modules in vehicles and much more. Together with OINO, AGC, Nuhma, LRM and Quanteus, Hegge co-invested in this relaunch.
On Friday 26 October 2018, Hegge celebrated its 125th anniversary together with customers, suppliers and other relations. Saturday 27 October 2018 in the afternoon, several proud employees showed what goes on in the buildings, both in Bosstraat and on Military Dike. All employees were invited, along with their families, for an extended company visit. In the evening, a big party was organised for all employees with their partners and the Hegge family. The theme of the party was talent. Several employees therefore enjoyed showing and hearing their musical talents.
Hegge is buying the buildings of AB Tribunes NV on the Militaire Dijk in Hamont. After the conversion works, this will become the new home of Façade construction. The move is scheduled for January 2018.
Commissioning of training, seminar and reception space.
One of the former two boardrooms was converted into a training, seminar and reception area. This provides even more opportunities to upskill staff, offer training and receive guests in a pleasant environment.
The Qualicoat Seaside label was achieved in December 2015. Hegge has been active as a powder coater for 40 years. Quality powder coating has been a focus within the organisation from the very beginning. The awarding of this label happened after intense audit and ditto controls.
Obtaining the ISO / TS 16949 – certificate once again underlines Hegge Supplies NV’s focus on quality, delivery reliability and continuous improvement. The quality team was expanded by 1 additional employee.
July 2008, a new 1,200 m² building was inaugurated. This building houses the logistics services. All finished orders are stored here, waiting to be picked up by the customer or delivered by our own freight transport. Some 90 people are currently permanently employed by Hegge NV, Hegge Toelevering NV and Hegge Invest NV. The workforce is regularly supplemented with temporary workers.
New powder coating installation in a new production hall
Hegge Supplies NV also operates exclusively through business-to-business. The workforce has been continuously expanded over the years. A new 2,600 m² production hall with social areas was commissioned in January 2007. A completely new powder coating installation was installed here with fully automatic pre-treatment and powder robots. The latest techniques were employed to improve quality and increase productivity.
From 01 October 1999, Marc and Luc, two of Gerard’s sons, took over the torch through their investment company Hegge Invest NV. Both are responsible for general management. Luc is responsible for production. Marc, on the other hand, is responsible for sales, purchasing, personnel, infrastructure and IT. Production is divided between two independent companies, being Hegge NV and Hegge Toelevering NV. Hegge NV produces and installs aluminium windows, doors, façade walls and domes. The market in which we operate is utility, office and industrial buildings. Hegge Toelevering NV is active in metal processing. It is divided into 5 departments, being: – Sheet processing (laser cutting, punching, bending and cutting) – Small construction (TIG, MIG and MAG welding, robotic welding, bending of profiles) – Production of aluminium splash screens – Pressing works (mechanical and hydraulic up to 5,000 kN pressing force) – Powder coating
As a supplier, delivery reliability is very important. Delivery reliability is part of Hegge’s DNA. To underline this, steps were taken to obtain ISO 9001 certification, resulting in the company being awarded this in 1994.
Since 1993, the business unit Hegge Supplies has grown strongly. In the field of sheet metal processing, a great deal was invested in state-of-the-art machinery. In the metal joinery business unit, we increasingly looked for projects with higher added value.
In 1988, Hegge Supplies NV was founded. Not only were the offices becoming too small by then, the workshops were no longer spacious enough either. A few years earlier, they had seized the opportunity to buy an adjacent plot of land on which a 4,200 m² workshop with 600 m² of offices was built. These buildings were inaugurated in December 1989 during the annual staff party in the presence of the staff, various prominent figures, customers and suppliers. Around that time, Hegge BVBA was transformed into Hegge NV. Hamopers PVBA, founded in 1982, was at that time transformed into Hegge Beheer NV, which then became the parent company.
The PVBA Hegge was established in 1975, later transformed into a BVBA. Moreover, a first 1200 m² was added. A few years later, the next 1200 m² was added. The next enlargement of the workshop soon followed. Activities continued to expand. Hegge was one of the first companies in the region to install a baking oven for powder coating. This installation was extended a few years later to include pre-treatment baths for aluminium and steel.
Start of production of steel and aluminium joinery
That the two brothers could not sit still became clear in 1970 when they started producing steel and aluminium joinery. This then took place in the old workshop on Burg.
In the early 1960s, two of the five sons, André and Gerard, were already active in the forge, which they took over from their father on 1 January 1962. Due to the enormous drive of both brothers, the workshop on the Burg soon became too small and they looked for a new location, which was soon found. A first 1200 m² hall was built. At the time, the main activities mainly consisted of turning and milling work, bending profiles, making manholes and all kinds of constructions. Trade in agricultural machinery was gradually phased out.
Adriaan Hegge continues as a blacksmith, continuing his father’s tradition. He expanded his forge from a forge for agricultural tools, horse hooves, etc., to a workshop where cavity hooks, hay rakes, etc. were produced. He also had a plant for chroming metals and traded in agricultural machinery and (Leuven) stoves. His wife ran a shop selling hardware and household goods.
Around 1928, three sons of Andries Hegge established a hardware store. Buying iron from the steel mills and selling it to local consumers was their activity. There was also a shop with a hardware shop on Hamont’s market square. The house with shop was later restored and is now called the “house Hegge”.
In 1893, Andries Hegge, great-grandfather of the current alloy directors, established a smithy in the centre of Hamont. He operated as the typical village blacksmith of the time. “Shoeing” horses and manufacturing and repairing agricultural tools were his main activities.
